Northshore School District

Education

"CentreStack made all the difference in the world for us. Thank you for being awesome." - John Smith, CEO

Background

Northshore School District (NSD) is committed to providing a world-class education for all Northshore students. Known statewide and nationally for academic excellence, Northshore serves more than 20,000 students in Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville and areas of unincorporated King and Snohomish counties. The district has 20 elementary schools, 6 junior high schools, 3 comprehensive high schools, an alternative high school, an independent contract learning program and early childhood education program. The district employs more than 2,000 teaching and support staff and has an annual operating budget of $200 million.

Challenge

NSD needed software to change how they accessed the files on their EMC VNX file servers. They did not want hosted storage. They wanted software that would work with local storage. Key Criteria: - Windows, MacOSX, iOS, Android sync - Sync user selectable subset of files/folders they have access to - Adhoc access all files the user has access to via webclient - Webclient with no java, upload and download files and folders that works on IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari - Access from any network (not just our internal network) - Use our existing EMC VNX storage - Integration with our Active Directory for authentication - Handles Mac iLife files (files that are really folders on disk such as garageband and iMovie) - Work on shared computers (computer login is different than file server login) - Cost (we have ~20000 students and ~3000 staff) Secondary Criteria: - Ability to easily share with read, read/write perms with other users (both public and private) - Ability for users and IT to audit to see who a file is shared with and type of sharing - Ability for IT to see who changed a file - File versioning including ability for IT to revert back to previous versions - Ability for IT to script user setup and initial access to files - Use existing file hierarchy and file permissions on the VNX server - Any software must run on vmware 5.0 or higher

Solution

Gladinet CentreStack met or exceeded all requirements.

"We had 6800 PCs and Macs that needed reliable remote access to our file servers. CentreStack Cloud Enteprise allowed us to solve that problem and create a secure, private file sharing solution for our 23,000 faculty and students who were struggling with email and USB drives. The transition has been completely seamless and I am very impressed!"

- Chris Kacorosky, North Shore School District
