At $3.59/user/month, CentreStack is less than half the cost of Egnyte. In practice, it actually ends up being even cheaper than that since it does not require you to license all Active Directory users. You may be surprised to discover that CentreStack is more feature-rich than Egnyte when it comes to security and control, including benefits like:
Guarantee data privacy. Keep data on-premises or in private clouds.
Simplify file server access from mapped drives, mobile devices and web browsers.
Users and permissions are automatically migrated for instant access.
Centrally manage granular NTFS permissions and AD users with auditing and reporting for all activities.
Reduce bandwidth usage and storage consumption with on-demand synchronization.
Two levels of file locking combine with version controls to control distributed access.
CentreStack’s solution removes any need for clients to rely on a VPN or company computers to securely access their files. Any authorized user can now simply log in and access their files remotely from any device with internet access. I wish we had switched sooner. It has been a fantastic product. For those that are worried about data in the cloud, just use CentreStack’s expertise and software to get your own servers set up.
Initially, files were being sent as email attachments but they would often be blocked before delivery. We then tried using a VPN solution which worked for a limited time, but was ultimately restricted by the firewall as well. We wouldn’t have had a solution for this problem without CentreStack. They made it so much easier to set this up.
Our clients were primarily using either Dropbox as their file sharing solution or emailing attachments to share files. We needed a solution where the data does not go to servers outside of Canada as Dropbox data does. CentreStack's greatest benefit is solving this problem while providing the ability to share files securely and access them anywhere with full control of data storage and support.
The primary competition is Dropbox, OneDrive or Sharepoint out of Office 365. But they don’t really match up to what CentreStack does. I think CentreStack is far superior because of all the capability of sharing and syncing while keeping your data private and secure.
Critical questions to ask when evaluating CentreStack as an alternative to Egnyte.
As a self-hosted Egnyte alternative, CentreStack provides complete control of the storage location to maximize data privacy. So, it's commonly used to guarantee data location and compliance, or maintain sovereignty. This is a common strategy for enterprises and hosting providers who want to keep data on-premises or in their country. Self-hosting also makes it easy to maintain existing compliance. For example, if you already have HIPAA compliant infrastructure, CentreStack provides an thin access layer that maintains that compliancy.
Gladinet has been in business since 2008 and has been a proven thought leader in this space. It was one of the first companies to provide drive mappings and the first to provide on-demand synchronization. The architecture of the platform makes it inherently more reliable and scalable since there are generally less moving parts and data transmissions to support.
User training is minimized with CentreStack's use of things like mapped drives and file locking that feel familiar to users. For admins, assisted installation and onboarding are free with small commitments or can be purchased for a small fee if a monthly subscription is preferred.
CentreStack provides a brandable platform that is flexible enough to work as a multi-tenant platform for managed service providers or as a single-tenant platform for enterprises.
CentreStack customers rave about CentreStack's highly responsive support team. Meaningful engagement usually happens in less than an hour and fixes are usually available in a few days.
Another hidden cost that is often overlooked is the cost of moving data into a cloud service. It can take hours, days or even weeks to restructure data and redefine permissions. With CentreStack, Windows file structures, users and permissions can be automatically migrated with minimal effort and zero use disruption.
